A Quick Q&A with a Stroller Strides Member: Part 3

A Quick Q&A with a Stroller Strides Member: Part 3

Stroller Strides welcomes moms in any stage of life. Your kid/s could be 3 months, 3 years or 33 years old; there will always be a spot for you in the warm-up circle. Wherever you are in your motherhood journey, don’t hesitate to join a tribe and be a part of an amazing program. Stay for however long you choose; kids in strollers are not a requirement!

Keri Carland is a long standing Stroller Strides member, working it in Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree, Colorado. If anyone can vouch for Stroller Strides as part of a lifestyle, it’s her!

  1. How long have you been a part of Stroller Strides?

Keri: I originally joined Stroller Strides when my first child was 1 years old. He is now 11 - so I guess that makes it 10 years!

  1. How many kids do you have?

Keri: Four. Three boys a one girl. Ages 11 down to 2.

  1. Why did you join Stroller Strides?

Keri: Originally so that I could get in a workout while having my kiddo with me. It took just one class for me to realize the class was so much more than just a workout!

  1. What keeps you coming back to Stroller Strides?

Keri: The great workout, the awesome friends I’ve made, and the positive environment for my children.

  1. What is your favorite thing about Fit4Mom or Stroller Strides?

Keri: We live in a world where there is so much judgment, especially in parenting. Stroller Strides has given me a break from all of that. We are a group of mom’s that are inviting, encouraging, supportive, and fun. I will also point out that my husband (who does cross-fit) came to a family class once and admitted it was tough for him!

  1. Describe what Fit4Mom or Stroller Strides means to you?

Keri: It is a community. The awesome workout is the bonus. It is based on common goals, a supportive environment, positive energy, and lasting friendships between both mom’s and kiddos.

  1. While a member what is one goal that you have achieved that you are most proud of?

Keri: I became a runner! I was encouraged to run a 5k. I always wanted to run a race; it was a bucket list for me. Stroller Strides organized a group run for Mother’s Day. I thought “here is my chance!” The group was so encouraging and put me on a plan I could accomplish. After the first race - I was hooked!

  1. How did you hear about Stroller Strides?

Keri: I saw them in the park when I was out for a walk with my son. I immediately thought - I want in on that!

  1. Would you recommend Stroller Strides to a friend? If so, what would you tell her about your experience and what she can expect?

Keri: I have recommended SS to so many moms. It is such an amazing workout and has kept me in great shape - all the while allowing me to bring my kids. A win-win! My children have made friends and look forward to going. No one bats an eye if you pause in the middle of a workout to nurse a baby, change a diaper, or call it quits all together because your kiddo is having an off day. Life happens, and SS accommodates.

  1. What impact has Stroller Strides had on your kid/s?

Keri: As our instructors point out - our babies are always watching! I love to see my 2 year old hold a plank and do burpees for fun. Fitness isn’t a fad, it’s a lifestyle. I want my children to grow up with the belief that physical fitness is an essential part to a happy and healthy life and should be part of the normal routine of life. To them exercising isn’t a chore, it’s fun. Stroller Strides has built this foundation for them.

  1. Anything else you would like to add?

Keri: The ladies encouraged me to run my first 5K, and I did it. They encouraged me to run my first 1/2 marathon, and I did it again! When my daughter was born, I didn’t cook for 6 weeks because they brought meals. When my father passed away, they left flowers and kind words at my door. They have been there through my highs and supported me through my lows. One day my youngest will go off to school, and I will move on from Stroller Strides. It will be such a sad day for me, but I will take with me life-long friends. If I never have to do a burpee again though, I will not complain.
