My husband and I had moved to Denver when my son was 3 months old. I was desperate to build mommy relationships and get my poor, leaky and weak post partum body back into shape. Post partum was the pits. I had felt so strong pregnant. Don't get me wrong. I got huge!! I had gained 50 lbs and felt like a land locked manitee by the time Austin made his appearance at 41 weeks and 4 days, but I also felt so strong. I had walked miles upon miles every day and did lots of squats and baby yoga to keep strong.
After, in the midst of post partum, I felt flubby, weak, sore, leaky, sleep deprived, and slightly broken. I was so in love with my little boy, but so downtrodden about my self and my body. I remember thinking, " I'll never feel normal again" or " fit again" or "sexy again" or "confident again". It was rough.

"I set out on a workout journey 4 weeks before Christmas so that I could try something new, be around some great friends, but mostly try to maintain my figure somewhat during the tough and tempting holiday season. I'm 25 years old and in the past three years I've grown and birthed three children. Okay, I lied. The oldest and youngest are 3 years and 5 days apart, so not exactly three years. But you get the idea. I'm 40 pounds overweight and have fallen into a dangerous mental trap: "I'm pregnant and/or breastfeeding. I'm going to gain weight and need some extra calories anyway, might as well make it count!" I am a 25-year-old stay-at-home-mom of two young boys. Before meeting Darcy starting the Body Back program, I was really overweight, stressed out, and honestly not all that happy with the direction my life was headed. Yes, I have a wonderful husband and great kids, whom I love more than life, but honestly I wasn't giving MYSELF much love. I am a 37-year-old mother of two who had gained 20 unwanted lbs from each child. It got to the point where I was almost as heavy as I was full term pregnancy. I felt very hopeless that I would never be able to slim back down. Then I met Darcy Peters and she told me about Body Back. I was skeptical. After the first free introductory lesson, I knew this program was different.
It has been a complete lifestyle change for me. I watch what I eat without starving. I stay active every day. I worked out a half hour every morning (longer if I have time). This is tough because I work 48 hours or more a week. Plus the hour classes with Darcy twice a week. In 8 weeks I have lost more than 10 inches (around my body - 3 inches in my waist alone). Thanks to the Body Back class, I am now in better shape than I have ever been in my life (including before I had two kids)! I had no idea 8 weeks could do so much! Darcy found the perfect way to give the attention of a personal trainer and the high energy of a group class. My Body Back moms became my biggest cheerleaders and closest confidants through these 8 weeks and I can’t imagine going through this journey without them.more
Body Back was such an amazing class! It got me into great shape, while helping me lose the weight and inches I was struggling to lose from having a baby. I feel stronger and more confident in myself and have Darcy and my fellow workout buddies to thank for that. I got so much out of Fit4Mom's Body Back challenge. There are so many aspects to this group that I felt helped us succeed. I loved the connection that I developed with the other moms, which helped develop the accountability that I desperately needed. The instructor ended our workouts on such a positive note with meditations that encouraged us to live with confidence today. She let us know that despite how far we need to go and how much we think we fail, she helps us take pride in who we are and how far we've come.
I also want to mention that the workouts are amazing. They are hard, but not impossible. I felt so accomplished after finishing everyone of the workouts. I am so excited to see where continuing with Body Back and Fit4Mom can take me.more
Yesterday I accomplished something even 4 years ago I never thought possible: I ran a half-marathon! My time was 2:34 minutes, slightly slower than my goal of 2:30 minutes. I am definitely not the fastest runner but I felt good at that pace and without a wait for the bathroom at mile 8 probably would've made my goal. Best part of not overdoing it was I felt great afterwards and was able to enjoy time with my family that afternoon. Thank you to Darcy Peters and the entire FIT4MOM Front Range, CO "Run Like a Mother: Marathon and Half Marathon" training group. Thank you for all the wonderful training runs over the past 4 months. I have truly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you and look forward to many more runs together in the future. Since having my children I have always found it hard to find someone to work out with that included the kids. I tried another type of class after my first, but found my daughter to be non-cooperative, and I didn’t seem to click with the instructors or the other participants. Since meeting Darcy, she has been an incredible inspiration. She is organized, determined, and encouraging. When Darcy first started the training for the Colorado Marathon, I said, I’d just train for the 10K…thinking that is all I could accomplish, or find time for. Darcy, not only convinced me that a half marathon was doable, but offered to help watch the kids while changing meeting times to fit my crazy Mommy schedule. The other participants were a joy to be around and made running fun. I found I simultaneously dreaded and looked forward to our Sunday runs. I have never been able to say, "I love running." And I've run off-and-on some of my adult life. I have entered various races, as well, but never said "Gosh, I love running!"
I just completed my second half marathon on 5/4/2014, (I completed the other in 2010). I finished the half and said "Gosh, I LOVE running!!!!!!!!"
To me, this speaks volumes of the training regiment I was given to follow. From food tips, hydration, training runs, picking the right shoes, and our trainer. I would never of finished with that feeling had I not had the training and trainer that I did!! And I have proof that it works. When I attempted this half in 2010 at 35-yrs-old and no kids. It took me 3 hrs and 18 mins.
I finished it 5/4/2014 at 39-yrs-old, 2 kids later in 2 hrs and 46 mins! I cut 32mins off my time! That is HUGE! I did this, as I stated earlier because of this training group and the mindset Darcy helped create for each of us! I owe so much to her and the group. I leave with the thought of, "When do we start training for another????!"
